Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that Ukraine’s entry into the European Union is not only a moral obligation, but also a strategically important step that is primarily necessary for the EU itself. He wrote about this in his article for publication Politico.
According to Shmygal, Ukraine will strengthen Europe in military terms and strengthen its geopolitical positions in the world. He emphasized that “the EU has already encountered aggression from Russia,” and called this conflict a “multidimensional war”, “whose tactics worked for decades in Ukraine.”
“The Kremlin’s goal is obvious – to sow panic, to bring chaos, to make citizens doubt the ability of their governments to protect them,” he said.
Shmygal also indicated that not a single country in Europe has such an experience in modern warfare as Ukraine. He cited the example of the development of military industry, recalling that in 2022 Ukraine produced 5,000 drones, and in 2024 more than a million FPV thrones were already sent to the front.
The head of the Ukrainian government expressed the opinion that the unification of the EU financial capabilities with Ukrainian military experience will be a “key to further cooperation.” He emphasized that, accepting Ukraine in the EU, European countries do not just expand their borders, but receive a “reliable shield” in the person of the Ukrainian army, which has unique combat experience. ”
In addition, Shmygal noted that the restoration of Ukraine will become a factor in the consolidation of Europe, since we are talking about hundreds of billions of euros of investments, the creation of new enterprises and jobs both in Ukraine and in the EU countries. He recalled that “Ukraine has 22 out of 30 critical minerals for the EU” and is ready to create joint production, which “give the European Union a strategic advantage.”
According to him, the restoration of Ukraine, which has already begun, is not only the restoration of the destroyed, but also “the opportunity for Europe for growing with Ukraine.”
