“Shocking imbalance”: WHO has told how COVID vaccines are distributed

Among the countries of the world, there is an extremely uneven distribution of vaccines from Coronavirus COVID-19, determined by the level of income of a specific state, said the general director of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhan Grebriesus.

“More than 700 million doses of Vaccine from COVID-19 were distributed on a global scale, but over 87% of them went to countries with high or secondary income levels, at the same time in low-income countries – only 0.2 %, “he said, Interfax reports.

“On average in high-income countries, almost one of four received a vaccine against COVID-19. In low-income countries, this is one of more than 500,” he continued.

According to the WHO chapter, at the present moment, 194 countries of the world began vaccination against coronavirus, 26 – no, although 17 of them received drugs. But, clarified Gebresus, most countries of the world at all insufficiently attracted a group of risk from among their population, and “in the distribution of vaccines remains shocking imbalance.”

he noted that over the international program COVAX over the past six weeks received more than 38 million doses of vaccines – in more than 100 countries and economies. However, he clarified, the plan was fulfilled less than 50%.

“It was expected that COVAX would deliver almost 100 million doses by the end of March, but because of a significant reduction in the sentence, we were able to distribute 38 million doses. We hope that we will be able to catch up in April and May,” he added.

At the same time, he criticized the desire of individual countries and companies to conclude bilateral transactions – bypassing COVAX. Greesus stressed that such an approach only aggravates inequality with vaccines in the world, and insisted that COVAX works: only vaccine supplies for this program are needed.
