German Chancellor Olaf Sholts rejected the request of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal about an increase in military support expressed during the visit of the Ukrainian head of government to Berlin, writes Die Welt.
In particular, then it was about modern Leopard 2. The German machine-building company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has expressed readiness to put Kyiv 100 Leopard 2A7 tanks, as well as spare parts for them and training materials, totaling in 1.55 billion euros. The first copies could be transferred 36 months after the conclusion of the contract. KMW proposal became the basis for the request of the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
However, according to the publication, the German Chancellor refused to approve the export license, and his statements as a whole were “general and uncontented.”
“Scholz demonstrated the lack of readiness to change his negative position on the issue of the supply of Leopard 2,” the newspaper wrote.
