At the University of Elizabeth City of North Carolina, on the last day of the Viking Festival festival, shooting occurred. According to local authorities, the incident happened during the Yard Fest event, which took place before the official closure of the festival.
As a result of the attack, one person died, six more were injured and were hospitalized. According to the university, the deceased was not a student.
After the reports of shooting, the campus was temporarily closed. Police began an investigation of the incident.
The formal statement of the University says: “The University is deeply saddened by this meaningless act of violence.”
