Darive failure
Darivensky gap – an environmental area covered with thick forests, swamps and mountains. This route is considered one of the most dangerous for migrants.
This is the only section of the Panmerican highway where there is no road. The gap can only be crossed on foot along the paths through the jungle.
Migrants are at risk of drowning in swamps or becoming victims of wild animals attacks.
Last year, more than 520 thousand illegal migrants, including 120 thousand children, used the 266-kilometer section of the Darivesky gap on the border of Panama and Colombia as a transit path to Mexico, and then in the USA.
