Slovakia will be able to abandon Russian oil obtained by the Druzhba oil pipeline, only in the case of guarantees from the European Union to provide significant economic assistance, the Ambassador of the Republic of the EU Peter Vargova said in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times.
“We need some guarantees from the EU budget that we will not be left alone with our public financing. A number of EU members are opposed to the idea of using ETS (a mechanism in a community that provides for the sale of quotas for greenhouse gas emissions) for infrastructure projects involving the use of fossil fuel, ”said the diplomat.
At the same time, she emphasized that the Prime Minister of Slovakia Eduard Heger was given certificates from the European Commission on the readiness to reconsider the procedure for the distribution of funds through the Restoration of the European Economy, created during the Pandemia of Coronavirus in order to facilitate access to them for East European states that are more dependent on Russian energy carriers.
