Snow Storms And Frosts In South Of United States Took Lives Of 10 People

In the southern states of the United States located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, abnormal cold and rare snowstorms for the region led to the death of 10 people.

According to preliminary data, in the states of Alabama, Texas and Georgia, fires in residential buildings, traffic accidents and cases of frostbite occurred due to severe frosts and snowfalls.

Strong icing on the roads caused many accidents and traffic delays. Due to bad weather, dozens of flights were canceled.

In the Milton, Florida, recorded record snowfall, in which the height of the snow cover reached 25 centimeters. In Texas, in the Bomont area, 15 centimeters of snow fell, which also became a record indicator. In the city of Mobile, Alabama, the height of the snow was 20 centimeters, and in Louisiana in the cities of Baton-Ruga and the New Orleans the strongest snowfalls have been noted since 1895.

The climatologist from Louisiana Jay Grains noted that the state has been experiencing the most severe weather conditions over the past 100 years. The temperature in some areas may drop to -12 degrees Celsius and hold out at this level until January 26th.

Secretary of the Department of Transport and Development of Louisiana Joe Donahu, urged residents to abandon optional trips due to strong icing of roads.
