The investigator’s request for the arrest of the former commander of the Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Major General Grigory Khachaturov, rejected the Armenia Anti-Corruption Court, his lawyer AKOP ENKYAN told reporters on February 21.
“The court rejected the request of the prosecutor’s office,” the lawyer noted.
Yenokyan said that Khachaturov was released in the courtroom and he could go home. The supporters of the general gathered near the court building met this message by applause.
Earlier, the lawyer said that Khachaturov tried to blame money laundering, but there was not a single witness who would confirm the prosecutor’s accusations.
Grigory Khachaturov is the former commander of the 3rd Army Corps of Armenia, the son of the former Secretary of General of the CSTO Yuri Khachaturov. On March 10, 2021, he supported the demand for the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan. Then he called the prime minister’s actions “inadequate and irresponsible.”
