The DeepSeek artificial intelligence model, developed by a Chinese company, drained the data of South Korean users of the Tiktok maternal company, Chinese ByTedance. This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap with reference to the Commission on the Protection of Personal Information of South Korea (PIPC).
According to PIPC, the information of South Korean users Deepseek was at the disposal of “third parties”.
“We confirmed that DeepSeek contacted ByTedance,” they said in the PIPC, noting that we have not yet determined what data was transferred and to what volume. “
Previously, PIPC “temporarily” suspended the loading of the Chinese chat boot based on the Deepseek AI throughout the country due to fears about the “data collection methods”. However, the commissions reported that the ban on the AI model will be lifted after the developers bring it into line with the laws of South Korea on the protection of personal data.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and the Environment of South Korea also introduced a ban on the use of Deepseek on internal devices for security reasons.
PIPC also sent an official request for an investigation to the Deepseek headquarters in China demanding to provide detailed information about the company’s policy regarding the collection of personal data.
Deepseek has released a free artificial intelligence model R1 with an open code on January 20. The model of artificial intelligence, which quickly gained widespread throughout the world, has become the most downloaded application, ahead of Chatgpt.
