President of South Sudan Saleva Kirir dispelled the country’s parliament, reports TASS.
All major parties and political forces welcomed this step, she notes. The presidential decree on the dissolution of the parliament was read on the state television of South Sudan in the evening of May 8.
The provision on the formation of a new composition of both chambers of parliament was included in a peace agreement, which in September 2018 signed the Sale of Kirira and the leader of the armed rebels of Riek Mashar. It laid the foundation for resolving an internal armed conflict due to the inclusion of opposition to all authorities.
According to the agreement reached, the new composition of both chambers of parliament will be formed from deputies that political parties will appoint. Most at the Lower Chamber – the National Legislative Assembly are reserved for supporting President of the country “People’s Liberation Movement of Sudan”. Supporters of the first vice-president of Rijek Mashar will receive a quarter of all deputies. It is expected that the new composition of the South Sudan Parliament will be formed on the coming week.
