Spain will take over the chairmanship in the European Union (EU) from July 1, amid the upcoming on July 23, early universal elections in the country, as well as uncertainty caused by the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez said that Spain will prescribe from the first of July for six months in the EU under the motto “Europe has become even closer.”

At the same time, the Foreign Minister of Spain paid special attention to the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. “The Russian war against Ukraine jeopardizes our values and principles. Having supported Ukraine, we thus support pluralism and diversity in the face of another model of authoritarianism and isolation,” said Albarez.
According to him, during the EU conflict should be closer to its citizens, and all of its 27 member countries act together.
The Foreign Minister noted that during his chairmanship, Spain will make every effort to accelerate the entry of the Candidates countries into the EU, including Ukraine.
During its presidency in the EU, Spain plans to organize 22 informal meetings on its territory. Among them is the summit of the European political community, which will take place in the Spanish city of Granada on October 5.
It is expected that the heads of state and governments of 44 countries, including Turkey, will take part in the work of the summit.
