Spain refused Russian cards

The largest Bank of Spain Santander announced the stop of cards of the Chinese payment system Unionpay, issued by Russian banks. The bank took this step “as part of the general sanctions policy of Santander in relation to Russia,” Russian media reports.

A bank’s press service employee said that this decision was made “recently.” Its execution is already happening in the field throughout the country.

ATMs of other banks in the country – EURONET, KUTXABANK and ING – have already stopped issuing cash on Russian Unionpay cards. This applies to both cards of Russian banks that are under sanctions and those that have not fallen under restrictions.
