Spanish Horses Arrived In Sarajevo On Way To Mecca

Three friends from Spain making horseback riding, three months later, reached the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Sarajevo.

Abdelcader Kharkassi, Abdallah Ernandes and Tarik Rodriguez set off from the south of Spain to repeat the route of the Andalusian Muslims who made Hajj 500 years ago, and fulfill their religious duty.

Pilgrims plan to overcome more than 8 thousand kilometers and achieve Saudi Arabia through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovin, Montenegro, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey.

During a stop in Sarajevo, they drove horseback on the historical district of Bashcharshiy, where they aroused great interest among tourists and local residents. Pilgrims also visited the monuments of Ottoman architecture, and then took joint photos with citizens and guests of the city.

In addition, they visited the Haji Mosque, traditionally visited by the Bosnians before going to Hajj, and got acquainted with local pilgrimage traditions.

– “We traveled almost all of Europe, now we are in Sarajevo”

Travel Organizer Abdelcader Kharkassi noted that for them this is the long -awaited fulfillment of a dream.

“We arrived from the Andalusia region. We traveled around most of Europe and are now in Sarajevo. This is the culmination of our route, Alhamdulillya. We are grateful to the Bosnian people – since the border crosses we are very warm here,” he said.

Kharkassi also said that they acquired new horses and are very happy about this.

According to him, pilgrims are faced with certain difficulties on the borders. In particular, they failed to obtain permission to enter Serbia, since the government recently changed in the country, and the necessary documents could not be issued.

Completing the story, Kharkassi expressed gratitude to the Bosnians for the assistance and a warm welcome.
