Speaker Of Armenia Parliament: Membership In EAEU Gives Armenia Economic Benefits

Armenia is not going to leave the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), participation in the organization gives economic benefits. The speaker of the parliament Alain Simonyan stated this at a briefing, TASS reports.

“Membership in the EAEU gives Armenia economic benefits. We are not going to leave the EAEU,” he said.

Note that on January 9, the Armenian government approved the draft decision on the beginning of the process of joining the EU. The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan noted that “this does not mean Armenia membership in the European Union in the literal sense of the word, since the decision on this issue can be made only by referendum”.

As the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk stated, Russia considers the discussion in Armenia a bill on entry into the EU as the beginning of the exit of the republic from the EAEU. According to him, joining the EU is incompatible with the country’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union.
