British Prime Minister Kir Starkmer addressed world leaders calling for force Russian President Vladimir Putin to sit down at the table of negotiations to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Starkmer performed at the opening of an online meeting organized by the UK, which discussed the situation in Ukraine.
Referring to negotiations between Ukraine and the United States, which took place in Saudi Arabia, Starmer noted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, having given a obligation to 30-day unconditional truce, demonstrated the country’s desire for peace.
At the same time, the British prime minister accused Putin of trying to delay the process and emphasized that if “the Russian leader really wants peace, he must stop barbaric attacks on Ukraine and agree to a truce.”
“We cannot just retreat and wait until this happens. We must move forward, strengthen the defense of Ukraine, prepare for the protection of any agreement and force Putin to sit down at the negotiating table,” said Starkmer.
The Prime Minister emphasized that in order to achieve peace it is necessary to strengthen the defense of Ukraine due to financing and other support. He also expressed confidence that Putin “sooner or later” would be forced to go to negotiations.
In London, the second meeting in Ukraine is held in the month, on which there are NATO leaders, the European Commission, as well as representatives of the countries of Europe, Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
The first meeting, held on March 2, did not lead to an official statement, but Starkmer announced at a press conference that the participants agreed to create a coalition to support Ukraine.
