US State Department approved the sale of Turkey sets to modernize the tactical network exchange network Link-16 F-16 fighter.
This is stated in a statement by the American Agency for Cooperation in the Field of Defense and Security of the United States (DSCA), which is responsible for the supply of military equipment and weapons abroad.
“The State Department decided to approve the possible sale of defense products and services to the Turkish government to support the modernization of its F -16 Park and related equipment,” it was said in the message.
According to the statement, the estimated cost of the package is $ 259 million.
It is noted that the transaction will contribute to the achievement of the goals of foreign policy and national security of the United States, and will also help “improve Turkey’s operational compatibility with NATO and ensure the safety of flights of the F-16 aircraft in Turkey”.
The representative of the US State Department commented on the decision of the Anadol (AA) agency. The diplomat emphasized that “Turkey is a reliable and valuable NATO ally.”
“Biden administration supports Turkey’s efforts to bring the Avionics of its F -16 park to the necessary standards,” said the diplomat.
He added that the sale of components “will increase the operational compatibility of Turkey with NATO.” According to him, the modernization of the F-16 Ankara at the disposal will enhance the safety of their flights, including a system for preventing clashes with the ground. “
“This is the main problem of operational compatibility and flight safety for both Turkey and all allies and partners participating in joint missions with Turkey,” the official explained.
“The United States and Turkey have long -standing and strong relations in the field of defense and security. The preservation of the operational compatibility of Turkey with NATO remains a critical priority,” the representative of the State Department emphasized.
Congress is endowed with the authority to protest within 15 working days the State Department’s decision regarding permits for the sale of weapons and military equipment to NATO members.
