State Department: Under Xi Jinping, China became repressive

Under Xi Jinping, China has become more repressive inside and aggressive in foreign policy. The United States perceive it as a challenge to national interests, said the Secretary of State of the United States Anthony Blinken, writes Voice of America.

“In recent years, under the leadership of Xi Jinping, we saw a completely different China. It is more repressive inside the country, more aggressive abroad and in many cases is a challenge to our own interests and our own values,” he said.

The White House strategy for national security defines China as a tough competitor to the United States. The Secretary of State noted that, despite the competitive context of the American-Chinese relations, they have “opportunities for cooperation”.
