The United States will not cease appeals to the Russian Federation to return his troops to the areas where they were before the conflict of 2008 in Georgia, the First Deputy Secretary of State Wardy Sherman, during a telephone conversation on Wednesday with the head of Georgian Foreign Ministry David Zalkaliani, writes Interfax.
“Deputy Secretary of State noted that the United States will continue to urge Russia to bring troops to the positions that existed before the war and comply with the 2008 fire agreement,” the State Department’s press release says.
During the conversation, the parties stressed the need to maintain the right of the sovereign countries themselves to choose their way, as well as the importance of the task of ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and Ukraine “in the light of the ongoing Russian aggression.”
