In Russia, it is necessary to legalize private military companies, including Wagner PMCs, said Sergey Mironov, head of the Fair Russia – For Pravda party. The deputy said this at the opening of the spring session of the State Duma.
According to him, it was thanks to the efforts of the mercenaries that Soledar was released. “Yes, with the support of our army, but you cannot exacerbate this glory,” the deputy said. He emphasized that the Armed Forces of Russia “has something to learn from the Wagner PMC in the issue of preparing recruits.
LEARNING OF PMCs, “so that we have a law, and not just reasoning, who does what and on what basis,” Mironov noted.
Under Russian legislation, mercenaries in Russia are prohibited. Recruitment of mercenaries for using them in armed conflicts is punishable under Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation under 20. For participation in the PMC, the mercenary itself can face up to 15 years.
Despite this, fighters of the Wagner PMC openly participate in the war in Ukraine. Last week, the Ministry of Defense even first mentioned the mercenaries in their daily report, describing events in Soledar.
