State Duma will study idea of criminal punishment for “discredit” of prisoners who fought in Ukraine

The Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, having considered the appeal of the head of the PMC Wagner Evgeny Prigozhin, instructed to urgently study the issue of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on the establishment of responsibility for discrediting participants in hostilities, the State Duma press service reports.

Volodin gave the relevant instruction to the chairmen of the defense committee Andrei Kartapolov and the Security Committee Vasily Piskarev.

On Tuesday, Prigozhin sent a letter to Volodin with a request to work out in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation of Article 280.5 “On the discrediting of participants in hostilities, volunteers, including former convicts.”

It is assumed that within the framework of this article, public actions will be prohibited at discrediting participants in hostilities, volunteers, including former convicts, publications of a negative nature addressed to them, as well as the dissemination of information about their past offenses with punishment in the form of deprivation of deprivation Freedom for up to 5 years.
