Washington, DC: Following meetings with the Moroccan authorities in Rabat today, Ms. Sabina Bhatia, Deputy Secretary of the International Monetary Fund, issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the International Monetary Fund, I would like to thank the Moroccan authorities, especially Minister of Finance Madame Nadia Fettah, and Bank Al Magrib Governor Mr. Abdellatif Jouahri, for convening today’s meeting with the IMF and World Bank. It is timely that we are in Rabat today, after the unavoidable postponement of the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Marrakesh due to the pandemic, to continue preparations with our Moroccan counterparts from multiple ministries and agencies. Our joint discussion today focused on arrangements for the Annual Meetings and concludes a round of fruitful consultations between our planning teams.
“The World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, which will take place in Marrakesh in October 2023, is a global event that brings together policy makers, finance ministers, central bank governors, thought leaders, and global media and civil society organizations from our 190 member countries. We appreciate our close partnership with the government of Morocco and thank them for the excellent preparatory work done thus far. We look forward to working together towards successful Annual Meetings that would bring the world to Morocco and Morocco to the world.”
