In 2020, the military expenses of Azerbaijan increased by 17% compared with 2019. This is stated in the latest report of the Stockholm International Institute for Peace Problems (SIPRI).
It is noted that this growth is the greatest relative growth among Eastern European countries.
According to the report, the increase in military spending is associated with the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
If in 2019, the military expenses of Azerbaijan amounted to 3.9% of GDP, then in 2020 they amounted to 5.4%.
According to the SIPRI report, Armenian military spending decreased by 2.6% compared with 2019. In this country, military expenditures are 4.9% of GDP in 2020.
