Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban informed NATO about his intention to visit Moscow before a visit to the Russian capital.
This was announced at a press conference in Washington by the General Secretary of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.
“Prime Minister Orban was in Moscow before and informed us of his visits. We talked about the results of the visits after returning. He informed us about his visit to Hungary,” said NATO Secretary General, commenting on Orban’s controversial visit to Moscow to meet with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
NATO Secretary General also expressed hope that the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance at the Summit in Washington will be able to discuss his trip to Moscow next week.
Cuttolenberg noted that Hungary shares the opinion of the NATO allies that Russia is responsible for the conflict in Ukraine. “Of course, Orban does not represent NATO at these meetings, he represents his own country,” he emphasized.
The question of whether the visit of Orban in the Russian Federation can negatively affect NATO unity, Stoltenberg expressed confidence that at the Summit in Washington all allies will condemn the conflict in Ukraine and express the support of the territorial integrity of this country.
Hungary said that she would not support NATO plans for Ukraine, but pledged not to oppose, the Alliance Secretary General said, he said. “Of course, Hungary will continue to fulfill all NATO obligations and at the same time transfer funds to the Alnyasa joint fund,” Potenberg added.
