Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on January 29-30 made an official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of this country Maria Gabriel.
According to sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, as part of the visit, the Turkish minister held meetings with President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov and speaker of the National Assembly (parliament) Rosen Zhelyazkov.
There were also meetings of the Foreign Minister of Turkey with the leaders of political parties forming the coalition government – Boyko Borisov and Kirill Petkov.
In addition, Hakan Fidan was adopted by the great mufti of Bulgaria.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey also held meetings with the heads of the Party “Movement for Rights and Freedom” (DPS), which represents the interests of ethnic Turks of Bulgaria – candidates for the co -chairs of the traffic police, Delayan Poevsky and Jafer Chakirov, as well as the current chairman of the traffic police, Mustafa Karadai. The event was attended by deputies of the Parliament of Bulgaria from DPS.
Together with the Bulgarian colleague, Maria Gabriel Hakan Fidan visited Endurosat AD (Bulgarian manufacturer of aerospace products).
The current visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister to Bulgaria has become evidence of the strength of strategic relations between the two countries. He also demonstrated that friendly and allied countries are becoming even closer to each other in the face of challenges at the international level and in the region, they noted in the Turkish diplomatic mission.
During the negotiations, a comprehensive exchange of views took place, primarily security issues in the Black Sea region, which have gained particular importance in connection with the conflict in Ukraine.
Turkey retains a firm commitment to the implementation of the provisions of the 1936 Montreo Convention, which regulates the passage of ships through Turkish straits. This was announced by the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a joint press conference with Bulgarian colleague Maria Gabriel in Sofia. In his words, maintaining stability in the Black Sea and the prevention of actions that may be in jeopardy, are among the fundamental priorities of Turkey as Montreo Convention Countries.
During the visit, the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, transport, infrastructure, trade and investment was discussed.
