2021th year turned out to be one of the most successful for the National Federation of Karate Azerbaijan.
Our karate won the medals at various competitions – the Olympiad, World Championships and Europe. At the games in Tokyo, two representatives of Azerbaijan from three made their way to the final, which became the highest in our country compared to the Olympic achievements in other sports. In addition, Azerbaijan is the only country that had two representatives at once in the Olympic finals. Recall, the silver winners were Rafael Agayev and Irina Zarechka.
Total Azerbaijani karates in 2021 won 319 medals – 89 gold, 118 silver and 112 bronze. It is especially worth noting the two gold rewards of Irina Zaretsky at the European and World Championships. It is no coincidence that the Zaretskaya was recognized as the best athlete of Azerbaijan following the voting of journalists of 55 local media organized by the Center for Sport Research.
Gold medals were also conquered at the World Cup, the CIS games, the World Championships in Schotokan, the Youth and Youth Championships of Europe, the Youth Premier League, International School School Games and other International Competitions.
It is also necessary to allocate the election of the President of the National Karate Federation of Azerbaijan Yashar Bashirov for the post of head of the World Schotokan Federation, which includes about 80 countries.
There were successes and on a judicial field. Among the 15 referee serving the competitions of the Olympiad, there was an Azerbaijani judge. In addition, more and more of our arbitrators serve international competitions.
