In the event that Finland and Sweden submit an application, they can very quickly become members of NATO, said the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.
“Of course, they are largely very close to NATO. Therefore, this process can go very quickly, if they decide to apply,” said Stoltenberg, noting that Finland and Sweden are important partners of NATO and conduct joint teachings with him.
In addition, both countries largely comply with the organizations of the Organization in the Defense and Security. However, ultimately joining the alliance requires a political decision of both Stolgolm and Helsinki and all 30 countries as part of NATO.
