Sweden officially decided to submit an application for membership in NATO. This was stated in the ruling Social Democratic Party of the country.
Finland was formed in a similar way.
The deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Grushko, the day before called the introduction of Finland and Sweden to NATO strategic change, which Russia will not leave without a political reaction. The answer to the expansion of NATO, according to him, will depend on which infrastructure of the Alliance will be placed in Sweden and Finland.
Russia has repeatedly indicated that it has no hostile intentions to these countries. However, according to Grushko, in NATO, they may announce the vulnerability of their northern flank and the need to place additional contingents there.
