, introduced by the West against Russia, due to the invasion of Ukraine, the sanctions have not yet reached their goal, the head of the Ministry of Economy, Education and Science of Switzerland, GI PARMELEN, said in an interview with Blick. The Minister’s statements comment on RBC.
to the question of whether the European Union should tighten sanctions against the energy sector of the Russian economy, the minister said that the “real question” is the degree of effectiveness of already introduced restrictions. In this particular case, if the purpose of sanctions is to put an end to Russian aggression in Ukraine as soon as possible, “I want to note that this goal has not been achieved to now,” said Parmelens.
The effectiveness of sanctions, according to him, largely depends on how they are executed, as well as on other “political, diplomatic and legal means used.” The sanctions that have received wide support of the world community will be more effective than adopted by individual states, the Swiss politician added.
At the journalist’s request to evaluate the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia, Parmolen said that it is difficult to answer such a question: “If Russia sells less oil to the West, but sells part of this volume to other countries at higher prices, the result for Moscow is the same.”
