A few days ago, two bison were sent from the Zoo in Swiss Bern to Azerbaijan, which should restore the population of these animals, extincting in our country.
It is worth noting that the last bison in the Caucasus was shot more than 90 years ago. Now the World Wildlife Foundation in collaboration with Tierpark Bern and Tierpark Berlin engaged in the relocation of bison to the Caucasus, and in particular Azerbaijan.
Bern’s bisons roam the natural forest on the territory of the Berne Zoo with an area of five hectares. Since 2000, 17 young bison has been transferred to Poland, Russia and Romania within the framework of reintroducts.
“The reassignment of the bison is a feat that can be achieved only thanks to long-term trust cooperation between international, national and, not less important, local partners,” explains the Caucasus Ekoregion in WWF Aurel Khaidelberg.
