Syria cannot discuss with Turkey the normalization of relations in the conditions of the “occupation” of its territories, said Foreign Minister Feisal Mikdad.
“We cannot talk about the resumption of normal relations with Turkey without removing the occupation,” Mikdad said at a press conference following a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Reuters reports.
According to the Syrian minister, the meeting of President Bashar al -Assad with the Turkish leadership “depends on the elimination of the causes of the dispute.”
At the end of 2022, negotiations between the Ministers of Defense of the three countries were negotiated in Moscow. This was the first official contact at this level between representatives of Syria and Turkey over 11 years. Now the parties are discussing the possibility of meeting ministers of foreign affairs and leaders of Syria and Turkey.
