The opening of the border crossings on both sides will be held in the presence of high -ranking government officials.

Sources do not specify whether the presidents of the two countries will personally attend the ceremony.

However, it is possible that Emomali Rahmon and Sadyr Zhaparov will take part in the event, possibly online.

In the meantime, March 12, on Wednesday, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in Kyrgyzstan with a two -day state visit. During the negotiations, the leaders will discuss the key aspects of bilateral relations, as well as issues of mutual interest.

It is expected that according to the results of the meeting, a package of bilateral agreements will be signed, which will become an important step in strengthening cooperation between Dushanbe and Bishkek.

Why was the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan closed?

The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan closed in 2021 against the backdrop of an armed conflict in the border regions of the Batken region (Kyrgyzstan) and the Sogdian region (Tajikistan).

Claces were accompanied by shootings, destruction and human victims, which led to a sharp exacerbation of relations between the two countries.

After the incident, the borders remained closed for security reasons, and diplomatic negotiations on the normalization of relations were delayed.

However, in recent months, Dushanbe and Bishkek have activated the dialogue, which led to the decision to resume the work of the checkpoints.
