Tatarstan: refused to rename position of President

The State Council of Tatarstan held a meeting, during which the Parliament unanimously spoke out against renaming the position of the head of the region, to date, called the President, “Moscow Komsomolets” reports.

According to the draft federal law “On the general principles of the organization of public authorities in the subjects of the Russian Federation,” not supported by the authorities of Tatarstan, for all regions of the country, the general name of the highest official is established – the head of the subject of the Russian Federation. Additional names can be applied, but they should not contain words that make up the name of the position of the head of state – President of the Russian Federation.

Head of the Committee of the State Constitutional State Council Albert Khabibullin said that the individual provisions of the draft law were regarded as contrary to the foundations of the country’s constitutional system.
