Tension around Lake Garagel: 6-hour negotiations ended

The Azerbaijani side restored its state border on the territories of the Lachin district border with Armenia. As already reported, due to the melting of snow in the highlands and mitigation of weather conditions, Azerbaijani border guards occupied the positions around the Garagel State Reserve belonging to our country. The Armenian side, regarding it as “interference with the territory of Armenia,” raised the noise and made provocative statements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has already expressed the official position on this issue. The Foreign Ministry said that measures to strengthen the border protection system are carried out within the framework of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and are conducted on the basis of maps determining the line of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Ministry said that from May 12, the Guide to the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan was sent to the specified area, negotiations are underway with border guards of the opposite side, appropriate steps are being taken to normalize the situation.

The Armenian service “Radio Liberty” reports that negotiations in the vicinity of Veries Wr. Syunik region, which lasted more than six hours, were supposedly ended. According to the Armenian edition of Radio Liberty, representatives of the Armed Forces and National Security Services, as well as high-ranking Russian military participated in the negotiations. Other details are not yet communicated.

Lake is located in the southern part of the Karabakh volcanic ridge, in the source of the River Agharin, the right influx of the Khakari River, near the northern foot of Mount Beyuk Ishigli (3548 m), from the North-West surrounded by the Mountains Demirdash and Kichik Ishigli (3452 m), with North of the North Mountains Dzhangutaran (2790 m), and from the east mountains of lowland Moraine.
