The authorities opened the Thai Phuket Island from July 1 for foreign tourists who have been vaccinated from COVID-19, reports Interfax.
It is noted that now foreigners who come to Phuket do not have to pass quarantine and they will be able to move freely through the territory of the island. However, if travelers want to go to other areas of Thailand, they will need to pass three tests for the presence of coronavirus for 14 days and get a negative result.
Prime Minister Prarat Chan-Fairy flew to Phuket to monitor the resumption of tourism on the island. The first after the removal of restrictions 249 travelers will arrive at the resort by flights from Israel, Abu Dhabi and Qatar. The Government of Thailand predicts that in the third quarter of 2021, Phuket will visit about 100 thousand foreign guests, which will bring $ 278 million.
According to the authorities estimates, in 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Thailand lost about 500 billion dollars, since the number of travelers in the country decreased by 83 percent: from record 39.9 million people in 2019 to 6.7 million.
