Italian and French energy companies ENI and Total, jointly engaged in natural gas reconnaissance in Cyprus shelf, discovered large reserves of blue fuel in the sixth unit of an exclusive economic zone (IEZ) of Cyprus, Cyprus television and broadcasting corporation (RIK).
According to the report, an official announcement is expected after additional research. It is noted that other gas reserves can be located near the discovered new deposit.
After the report on the detection of gas reserves, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasulidis said that he was not officially informed about this. Kasulidis recalled the procedure according to which energy companies should first transfer information to the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry and only then make public statements. He also attracted attention to the fact that Ankara has claims to this zone where ENI and Total intelligence.
