Turkey increased its installed power production capacity to 105 thousand megavatts thanks to investments invested in the sphere of energy in the last 100 years. In 2023, the total power of the electricity production of Turkey was 33 megavatts.

First power plants
The first geothermal power plant in Turkey was installed in Denizley in 1974, the first wind station in Izmir in 1998, and the first solar power plant in Istanbul in 2011.
The first hydroelectric power station Tarsus hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 60 kilowatts was commissioned in 1902, and then in 1929 the hydroelectric power station was earned.
The first coal TPP was commissioned in Istanbul in 1914. Later, in 1948, the thermal power station of Chatalagzy was commissioned.
The first power station of the combined cycle operating on natural gas was the Hamitabat object built in the Lyuleburgaz area in the Kyrkhalleville Province in 1985.
Today, the number of power plants in Turkey has exceeded 12 thousand.
In addition, Turkey takes 5th place in Europe in the installed capacity of renewable energy sources.
So, the total power of renewable energy sources in Turkey, including hydroelectric power station, increased to 58,225 megavatts.
Thanks to investment in the clean energy sector, Turkey took 5th place in Europe and 12th place in the world in the installed capacity of renewable energy sources.
