The President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev said that he had no intentions through the referendum to renew the terms of his authority, RIA Novosti reports.
“I am in the country and abroad ask the question of whether the current head of state is going to extend the terms of his authority, so to speak, to reset the presidential term. I answer: there were no such intentions,” he said, speaking in c. Almaty at a solemn session dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences.
He noted that they show great interest in Kazakhstani society and abroad: “This indicates a wide social request for socio-political changes and the faith of people into the reality of the upcoming changes. This is natural, since the reforms are carried out in the interests of the whole society, and not to increase the privileges of individuals, including the president. “
The Kazakh leader recalled that in Kazakhstan a nationwide referendum on changes in the Constitution will be held for the first time.
“This event will be an important step towards strengthening democratic traditions in our country. Citizens of our country as a whole understand the significance of constitutional transformations,” the president emphasized.
