The Ministry of Defense of Japan was presented by the annual report “White Book of Defense”, which notes that Tokyo is concerned about the growth of the number of Russian weapons in the Far East.
“There is an increase in the military activity of the Armed Forces of Russia around Japan, as well as the tendency to continue the placement of the last type of weapons in the Far East,” the report says.
The document also indicates that these trends need to be “track with high concern.” In particular, Russian exercises are described there in the Sea of Okhotsk, patrolling the border territories and the placement of Bastion coastal missile systems. In the report of the Ministry of Defense, it again emphasized that Tokyo considers the southern Kurils its “original territories.”
