Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kisida announced new sanctions against Russia, including the freezing of assets of another 140 individuals and the expansion of the ban on export of Japanese goods to Russian military companies, the Russian BBC service.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting in London with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Kisida said that Russian aggression should not remain unpunished, and that this aggression applies not only to Europe. “Today is Ukraine, tomorrow, perhaps East Asia,” Kisida said, when he was asked if there are parallels between Russian aggression in Europe and China’s attempts to play a dominant role in the Asia -Pacific region.
Japan and its allies “should not put up with unilateral attempts to change the status quo using force in the Asia-Pacific region, and especially in East Asia,” said Kisida.
