Fifty leading “brain centers” in the USA in the period from 2019 to 2023 received financial support in the amount of more than 110 million dollars from foreign governments. This follows from the report of the American Cuinsey Institute called “Big Ideas and Big Money: Financing Analytical Centers in America.”
According to the report, the US government and the US Department of Defense also provided significant amounts of financing to these organizations.
The document notes that only nine out of the 50 largest analytical centers of the United States are “completely transparent”, 23 – “partially transparent”, and 18 “not completely transparent”.
The main sponsors are the United Arab Emirates ($ 16.7 million), Great Britain ($ 15.5 million) and Qatar ($ 9.1 million).
The main recipients of foreign financing are the Atlantic Council, the Bruckings Institute and the German Foundation Marshall.
In addition, the 100 largest defense companies in the world were allocated to American analytical centers in the amount of more than $ 34.7 million. Northrop Grumman for the period under consideration funded the “brain centers” for $ 5.6 million. Lockheed Martin and Mitsubishi allocated $ 2.6 million and $ 2.1 million, respectively.
The Pentagon donated the most funds to the Atlantic Council ($ 10.2 million), the Center for New American Security ($ 6.6 million) and the Center for Strategic and International Research ($ 4.1 million).
