Tragedy occurred on the Padma River near Shibchar. “We saved five people and found 25 bodies,” the observed head of the local police Mraz Hossein commented.
According to the Reuters agency, the number of dead reached 26. Another police representative said that firefighters and locals continue to the rescue operation, since several people remain missing.
Similar accidents on water often happen to Bangladesh, located in the delta, where dozens of rivers are intersect. Experts associate most of these accidents with poor boat service, low safety standards and vessel overload.
