Pete Highset, appointed by the US President Donald Trump for the post of Minister of Defense, described North Korea as a “nuclear power”, which poses a threat of global stability.
“The status of North Korea as a nuclear state, its intensive work to increase the range of missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads, as well as strengthening the cyberpotentials on the Korean peninsula, in the Indo-Pacific region and all over the world. These threats cause special anxiety Given the proximity of North Korea to the close allies of the United States, where American troops are located, ”said Hagest in a statement submitted by the US Senate Committee on Armed Forces.
The recognition of the HEGSET North Korea as a “nuclear force” can provoke disputes, since the United States officially does not recognize North Korea a nuclear state.
It is known that most US officials do not want to openly call the Pyongyan government a “nuclear power” in order to “not recognize and not legitimize its illegal program for creating weapons.”
The Senate Committee on Armed Forces, which includes 14 Republicans and 13 Democrats, will consider the hegset’s hearings, and then send his candidacy for approval to the Senate. Hegset will receive the right to take the post of Minister of Defense if his candidate is approved by a majority of the Senate votes.
