US President Donald Trump is seriously considering the possibility of “indirect” nuclear negotiations with Iran.
According to the report of the American news portal Axios, referring to two American officials, the White House considers options for nuclear negotiations with Iran.
According to the report, US President Trump is seriously considering the possibility of indirect nuclear negotiations with Tehran, simultaneously increasing the US military presence in the Middle East.
Trump, who previously stated that he would prefer direct nuclear negotiations with Iran, began to give preference to indirect negotiations after reports that Iran would only agree to “indirect negotiations through the mediation of Oman.”
Trump has not yet made any decision, but together with his national security team is working on the definition of a roadmap for nuclear negotiations with Iran.
One of the American officials said that the Trump administration believes that direct negotiations would have more chances for success, but the format proposed by the Iranians is not excluded, and they do not object to the fact that Oman acts as an intermediary.
“After the exchange of letters, we discuss further steps to start negotiations with the Iranians and strengthen trust,” said the source.
According to them, the decision has not yet been made and internal discussions are ongoing.
