Turkey: construction of “Istanbul” canal begins

Turkey’s authorities on Saturday begin construction of the Istanbul Channel, which will connect the Black and Marmara Sea. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will personally take part in the launch ceremony of the megaproject and lays the first stone for the basis of one of the six bridges that will have to connect the shores of the new water artery, reports the Turkish TV channel Haberturk.

It is noted that on both sides of the canal will be built cities with residential buildings for more than a million people.

This project will be the largest infrastructure initiative in Turkey’s history.
