Turkey considers the cessation of Sweden of the connections with the terrorist working party of Kurdistan (RPK) the most important condition for the approval of Ankara of this country in NATO. The Turkish ambassador to Sweden Emre Yunt said about this in an interview with the newspaper Financial Times, which was published on Thursday.
“They must break off the connections with the RPK. This is most important,” said the diplomat, holding the current post since 2017.
Yunt said that in Ankara they were outraged that the Swedish Minister of Defense and other officials in recent years was negotiating with the leadership of the RPK. “They argue that this group is fighting with the” Islamic state. “But IS no longer exists,” the ambassador said.
He also added that the position of Turkey in Sweden “has no connection” with the relationship of Ankara and Washington.
