Ankara demanded that Washington rather solve the issue of purchasing F-16 fighters, writes Sabah, with reference to sources.
According to the publication, the Turkish side wants to avoid tightening the process and asks Washington to hurry up with sale.
“For this reason, it is negotiating with the Pentagon and demands that the question be represented by the US Congress,” the source said.
He added that “Congress should approve the issue for a certain period of time.”
Ankara intends to buy 40 F-16 fighters from the United States and modernize another 80, which is in service with it.
In July, the chairman of the US Senate Committee on International Relations, Robert Menendes, demanded that Turkey break off relations with Russia for the purchase of F-16 fighters. According to him, Washington will sell its military equipment only to those countries that share the values of the United States.
