Turkey fully supports open -door policies to NATO. This was stated by the head of the Turkish Ministry of Defense Hulushi Akar, his words quoted by Financial Times (FT).
The minister called on Finland and Sweden to do more to join the Alliance and noted that NATO membership is vital for the stability of their neighborhood. He also added that the alliance cannot be imagined without Turkey.
“We are a tested nation, a tested army that will never act contrary to our unions. There is no reason for concern,” Acarus assured. He emphasized that candidates for joining NATO should respect Ankara’s security interests.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Sweden and Finland refused Ankara to issue about 130 Kurds, which the Turkish side considers terrorists. He recalled that the issuance of a number of persons was a condition for the entry of these states to the North Atlantic Alliance to be approved.
