Turkey: Water Reservoir Was Restored For 2.8 Thousand Years

In Turkey, the restoration of the water tank for the Kingdom of Urartu, whose age has almost 2800 years, is completed.

The artifact was found in the Harput fortress in the East Anatoly region.

As the head of archaeological work in Harput Ismail Aitach told the correspondent of the Anadola agency, he will be open to visitors after they lay the access road.

52 steps lead to the tank carved in the rock. It has a diameter of about 4.5 meters and a depth of 30 meters.

“This reservoir is the largest of carved in a natural rock in Turkey. When the water ended in it, it was used to store products,” said Ismail Aitach.

Historical district of Harput is included in the preliminary list of the UNESCO World Heritage. Traces of the first settlements here date back to 3000 BC.

Start of archaeological excavations and restoration work in the Harput area was given in 2004.

Earlier in Harput, the 112-speed tank of the Urartu period was restored. The historical object was opened for visiting tourists in 2021.

Aitach noted that the overall water tanks carved in the Harput fortress are significant structures from the point of view of history and tourism.

The interlocutor of the agency also indicated that there are many smaller reservoirs in the fortress, but there are only two large tanks with steps.

In the Seljuk period, one of them was used as a dungeon where the King King was contained.
