Turkey’s income from tourism in the first quarter of this year increased by 5.4 percent compared to the same period of 2023 – up to 8 billion 784 million 800 thousand dollars. This is evidenced by the data of the Institute of Statistics of Turkey (Tüi̇k).
According to Tüii̇k, 21 percent of tourism income falls on Turkish citizens living abroad.
Tourist’s expenses for personal needs amounted to 7 billion 775 million 627 thousand dollars, and for tourists – 1 billion 9 million 174 thousand dollars.
The number of visitors who left Turkey in January -March of this year increased by 10.1 percent compared to the same period last year – up to 9 million 10 thousand 90 people. Of these, 21.6 percent or 1,942,094 people are Turkish citizens living abroad.
The costs of the night in the first quarter of the year amounted to an average of $ 93. At the same time, Turkey citizens living abroad spent an average of $ 64.
The share of food and drinks in tourism revenues in the period under consideration amounted to 22.6 percent, for international transport – 16.7 percent, and for tourists – 11.5 percent. Thus, the costs of food and drinks increased by 2.8 percent, the expenses of international transport – by 11.8 percent, and the costs of tourists – by 19.4 percent.
For the indicated period, 46 percent of foreign guests visited Turkey mainly for “travel, entertainment, sports and cultural events”, 31.3 percent to “visit relatives and friends” and 9.6 percent – with the goal of “shopping”.
At the same time, Turkey citizens living abroad arrived in the country mainly in order to “visit relatives and friends.” They account for 73.6 percent.
– Tourism expenses increased by 11.3 percent
At the same time, tourism expenses in the first quarter of this year increased by 11.3 percent compared to the same period of 2023 – up to 1 billion 779 million 649 thousand dollars. Of these, 1 billion 444 million 620 thousand dollars falls on personal expenses and 335 million 30 thousand dollars- for tourists.
