Turkey will send 50 border guards to Hungary, where they will carry the service on the borders with Serbia and Romania. The appropriate protocol was signed by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary Sandor Pinter and the head of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs Suleiman Soyla, the portal Balkanist.ru reports.
It is reported that the military of the two countries will jointly deal with the prevention of illegal migration, drug smuggling and cross-border crimes.
Suleiman Soyle said at a joint press conference after signing the protocol that the pandemic, migration and the rise in energy prices create difficulties on a global scale, but there are also regional problems that cause anxiety.
“Unfortunately, we face cross-border crimes, such as terrorism, illegal displacement of drugs and cybercrime,” he noted.
In turn, Shandor Pinter expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for the initiative of military cooperation. “We are grateful to Turkey for the proposal, and accept him with respect,” said Vice Prime Minister of Hungary. The ministers noted that the signed protocol is part of the agreement reached between the two countries during the meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council, which was held on November 11, 2021, chaired by the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
It is worth noting that Hungary since 2018 is an observer in the Turkish state established by Turkey (until 2021 – the Turkic Council).
